The 80/20 Rule


80% of the time focus on eating in the center two circles of the food target and 20% of the time you can make room for the things you love.

Sounds so simple but it is so magical. This gives you 4 meals out of the week where you can splurge a little. Remember to never waste your 20% on something that is so not worth it. There are so many healthy and delicious things in this world it’s important to make everything count.

With a little planning, you can enjoy all of your favorite things and still see the results you are looking for. Keep in mind that no one gets pleasure when they overdo things. Perhaps instant gratification but not long-term health and happiness.

Work up to 80/20 by taking small steps to healthy living and using the food target to upgrade the quality of your food and beverages.

Give this 80/20 plan a try and use this calendar to plan out your 80/20 lifestyle. Remember that life is about finding more balance.

You can also apply the 80/20 rule to movement and resting too. Plan to move your body most days of the week and aim to get 7-8 hours of sleep each night.

Have a craving for something sweet, salty or not so healthy? Wait it out! Research suggests that cravings truly only last 10 minutes. Set a timer, go for a walk, drink some water, and then re-visit that craving.

Many times our cravings stem from boredom, dehydration, or emotional triggers. Pay attention to these cravings and fuel your body with a little movement, a quick nap, a sip of water or a healthy snack.
