“Did you know that cooking more meals at home is the first step to getting healthier? Studies show that when rates of home cooking go down, obesity goes up. The less time we spend cooking, the more time we spend eating! The smell of cooking is satisfying to us and can actually make us eat less. Did you know that our sense of smell is our most powerful sense? It is directly connected to the area of the brain that is associated with memory, emotions, and feelings. Think about your favorite family recipe or that first bite of a Christmas cookie–it instantly floods us with feel good endorphins and emotions bringing us back to a very special time in our life.
In the United States, we tend to eat for flavor and convenience when it is the story of food that is so powerful–where its coming from, what’s involved in the process, how it makes us feel while we eat it and even after we eat it and how it connects us with the people we love.
There is so much more to eating than to lose weight or be healthy. Of course this is a big part of it, but not the biggest.
What Is Target To Table All About?
Born one minute apart, Kristen and Matt were no ordinary siblings. And their upbringing was no less unusual. Under their father’s influence they were weaned on flaxseeds, cod liver oil, and other freakishly healthy foods. Yuck, right? But they didn’t know any better.
Lucky for them, their mother taught them how to turn these freakishly healthy foods into something delicious. By the time they were eight years old, they were preparing family dinners once a week and “busting suds” on their nights off. Their family bond was forged celebrating their tasty creations and fighting over their failures.
With a Dad who cared more about “food as fuel” and a Mom who took pride in preparing meals that were beautiful and tasty–Kristen and Matt collaborated to create a a cookbook that combines healthy and delicious in a way that’s fun and easy.
